Apple iMac 27″ (2013) Broken Hinge / Stand – Repaired
Issue with the iMac:
Today we were our own customer. The hinge on our bosses 27″ iMac (Super Slim) gave out and the screen was no longer staying upright in its correct position. This is a known “faulty” design flaw by Apple, and unfortunately we had to pay to price to fix it. For the past week our boss had to put a wedge on the back of his iMac to keep it upright.
We will go ahead and open up this beast and see what we can do.
After opening up the iMac and doing the complete tear down to get to the hinge mechanism, it was obvious that the hinge was broken and needed to be replaced.
We have the part in stock and we will go ahead and replace it and update this post once the repairs are complete.
We replaced the broken hinge mechanism with a brand new one. Repairs took about 2 hours and our boss can now enjoy viewing his iMac in whichever position he desires :).
Since we already had the iMac open, we went ahead and surprised him with a 500GB Samsung EVO SSD.
Total Cost of Repairs:
The repairs ended up costing only $240.00 + tax.
Breakdown of Charges:
- Hinge Mechanism (Part): $120.00
- Repair Labor: $120.00
