Apple MacBook Pro 13.3″ (2011) OS X Update Combined Could Not be Verified
Issue with Laptop:
Customer came in with a 2011 MacBook Pro 13.3″ Laptop that she had purchased from eBay. She received the laptop without an operating system installed on it. She attempted to install the operating system via the built in Recovery option, but the installation kept getting timed out with an error:
“OS X Update Combined” could not be verified. It may have been corrupted or tampered with during downloading. Click Update to download and check the update again.
She tried wiping the hard drive clean and reinstalling a few times, but kept getting the same error message. We will start our diagnosis to figure out the exact issue.
Moreover, after attempting to install the operating system from our secure server, we received the same exact error message as the customer did. We will attempt to repair the disk permissions on the hard drive, check the installed memory, and also make sure the laptop doesn’t have any sort of liquid damage that may be causing issues (probably not the case, but just to be sure).
Nonetheless, we were able to successful repair the issue and install a fresh copy of Yosemite 10.10.5. The issue turned out to be the memory cards that were installed. Although they were 100% OEM parts, for some reason they had just went bad. We replaced both memory cards and the install went through very smoothly.
Customer had dropped off the computer at 11:00am and was ready for pickup at 5:00pm. She was thrilled to get back here MacBook the same day.
